...ALASTAIR COOK CAPTAINED ENGLAND TODAY
And, okay, they lost.
Hard. But - to be fair to Alastair (
Captain!) he a) doesn't get to play too much Twenty20 b) has never actually captained England proper before and c) he did actually want his bowlers to bowl yorkers but apparently, as is to be expected from English bowlers, they failed.
Which. Hmm. Now I'm wondering...
I've been saying, to my family, for the longest time that the issue with England and Twenty20 is they don't seem to realise that they need to bowl on a tight and full length in order, you know,
not be crushed. The amount of unnecessary short balls I've seen these bowlers put down over the years in a game where anything short is going to be punished is just embarrassing. So I'm starting to wonder if there's anyone out there capable of bowling a good yorker in the county scene. (Perhaps you could shed some light,
loganberrybunny?)
So I don't think you can blame Alastair for that.
(The part where he opened the batting himself, though, that you can blame him for. Batting well,
once, in a Twenty20 for Essex does not qualify you for opening the batting on an international level, dearest.)
Still. There it is. Alastair Cook's first official game as Captain. Just a shame it had to be bloody Twenty20. Here's hoping when he gets the job, however far down the line that is, he gets a better crack at it.
Seriously, though, you guys. ALASTAIR COOK CAPTAINED ENGLAND.
CAPTAINED.
